Movie Reviews
Agnes Browne, with Angelica Huston starring and directing, is the story of a working class Irish widow, mother of 7, making her way in a rough and tumble neighborhood in Dublin. It's colorful, often profane, fast paced and funny. But the Irish won't like it very much. The story relies on a stereotypical view of the Irish as long suffering louts, in thrall to the Church and the bureaucracy, who have sentiment without sense, courage without direction and ignorance without end. But Angelica does have the accent down pat, although you might find yourself wishing for subtitles.
