NEWS FROM AROUND

Cael's latest project in San Francisco - restoring a 95 year old house.

MOUNT SHASTA
Marcella continues her doctor ordered bed rest to prevent an early delivery.  She's due  the first week of April and an  incident of placenta previa will require that she have a C-section.  Therefore it's vital that she keep offer feet until the birth.  Let's keep Marcella and the baby in our prayers and thoughts.
Meanwhile, Cael continues with his project in San Francisco refurbishing another 95 year old house.  Unusual for San Francisco, this one has a large yard.

COLORADO
Alfonso's 25 year old brother, Alfredo, has joined the Weston household for a visit.  The boys and Carmen are busy with studies and Liam continues his crowded travel schedule.  The Big Yellow Bus continues its trips to the ski park giving the boys lots of time on the slopes.  Next question:  How many more seasons before Kevin gets behind the wheel of the Black Diamond Ski Club Express?
VALLEY CENTER
Pat took time out from his rapidly growing appraisal business to take the family to Vancouver, B.C. for a week.  They stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel and rented a car to get around and see the sights.  Michelle loved the shopping.  They would have done more sight seeing on foot but it turns out that "Little Timmy" is too big for a stroller but not big enough to keep up on his own.  Pat and Tammy found time to tour one of the pubs in town.  On the way home their flight was diverted from San Diego to LAX after circling for an hour.  But it was a great and welcome trip.  Pat has been doing 9-10 appraisals a week and is shooting for 35-40 a month by April.

SAN DIEGO SOUTH
Despite a mighty effort and some awesome wrestling at the Masters, Mike S. finished out of the money and won't be  going to the State competition.  Mike has a career in high school wrestling that he can be proud of.  An awards banquet is set for early March in San Diego.  Lots of family will be there to cheer our boy!
Charlie enjoyed a cruise with her family during the month while Mike kept the home fires burning and completed some serious home projects.

VICTORVILLE
Chib's family is busy with academics.  Chib's closing in on her Masters, Erin is working on her BS,  Dylan is working on his diploma and Brenna is looking forward to completing middle school.

SAN  DIEGO NORTH
Tim and Lynn are enjoying a vacation in Hawaii.  Lynn won the trip through Washington Mutual.  This is Tim's first visit to the Islands.  He was looking forward to some great surfing.

ROCKLIN
Grandpa and Kathryn celebrated their 6th anniversary with a 3 days visit to Mendocino on the Northern California coast.  It is a small town of old homes and fresh paint.  It sits on a dramatic bluff overlooking the Pacific, a collection of B&Bs and art galleries, made rich in the 80s by the hippies-turned-entrepreneurs who moved north when San Francisco became too unfriendly.
PENSACOLA
Mary Kate reports that all the debris from Hurricane Ivan has finally been cleared but  Shawn is still working at clearing the beaches.  Megan is working full time, doing a practicum at a local elementary school and seeing a young man who we're told is very handsome.  Photo? Elizabeth will go to state competition with her drama group in April as a technician doing lighting and staging. She continues to earn stellar marks in school.
Scotty had tubes put in his ears which greatly improved his hearing.  Scott will leave teaching in March and return to Mobile Aerospace.  Mary Kate replaced her lost diamond with a larger version.  Good.  She's entitled.

Pictures from the Pole

Aunt Susie, (as in Tom and Susie Weston) just completed a tour of Antarctica and sent me these pictures portraying the balmy clime way south of California.

From the left notice the double rainbow, Aunt Susie (on the left) and friend, penguins waddling about and finally, recognizing that there is always need for a road sign.

Ancestors of some note
Tinsley Suck-a-thumb Weston was known for his wisdom and innovative solutions to problems of logistics, routing,  human resources and restricted calorie diets.  Weston was a high ranking executive with the Southern Pacific Railroad. When confronted with a problem Suck-a-Thumb retired to his office, clasped his thumb in his mouth and didn't remove it until he reached a solution.  He acquired this gift f rom his direct ancestor, Finn McCool, the inspired and wily founder of the Fianna, or Irish Army. Finbar Geronimo Halsey Weston won fame as  a high diver in a traveling circus until a nefarious rival plotted his ignominious end. Finbar's specialty act was to climb a 30 foot pole and shallow dive into a bathtub full of water. A rival diver in another circus moved his platform to 50 feet and dove into half a tub of water.  Finbar fought back by diving from 75 feet into a bucket of water.  His rival dove from 100 feet into a wet towel.  Finbar bested his rival with a 125 dive into a wet washcloth.   Finbar was clearly the winner until his rival sneaked in and wrung out the washcloth.  Finbar dove no more.

Scott Perry Weston, adventurer and explorer was the first American to push a wheel barrow  loaded with machine parts across the Great Divide.  He accepted this task as part of a bet made in a pub in Spirit Lake, Idaho.  The bet he accepted was to push the cart 50 miles uphill in less than 24 hours.  Weston reached the finish line in 20 hours, well ahead of the observers, and continued on another 50 miles to Gritville, Colorado where he married  Maev Murphy, opened a boarding house and  music hall and prospered. Hercules Weston was large and powerful man who worked as a blacksmith until he ran for public office and won a seat in the state legislature.  He never worked after that.  A bombastic orator, he often intimidated opponents in debates with the sheer volume of his voice.  It was said that he developed a massive set of lungs while blowing on the forge as an apprentice blacksmith. It is reported that in his prime, Weston could lift a horse's tail and blow the bit right out of the animal's mouth.
Dear viewer....if you got this far then you probably have discovered that all photos, except for these four, can be enlarged by clicking on the photo itself.  These four don't need enlargement....the subjects are bigger than life without any additional technological assistance.

Below is one last striking view of Antarctica, compliments of Aunt Susie
